Voice over internet protocol (VoIP) applications could easily be developed for the iPhone. As you might know, Apple launched a new Software Development Kit (SDK) for the device. The SDK could change the way people use their iPhones (and iPod Touch) by enabling software developers to produce new applications for VoIP, instant messaging and Push email. Voice allowing users to make free calls on their home connection or while they are in a wireless hot spot. Instant messaging will become available through iChat while email services will be faster, as well as more secure, with the capability to remotely wipe devices. Other new applications expected to be developed with the SDK include multi-touch games, which make use of the iPhone's touch-screen functions. Developers including Electronic Arts and Sega are reportedly looking at producing titles for the device. A recent report from ABI Research said the market for VoIP over WiFi, or VoWiFi, is set to grow "significantly" over the next five years.
