iPhone 3G TIPS: APN Changer GPRS UMTS

[updated july 3th 2009] A new post regarding to OS 3.0 APN Settings and MMS on an iPhone 2G available HERE
[updated june 18th 2009 ]A new post regarding OS 3.0 APN Settings and Tethering /wo Jailbreak available HERE

Q: How can I change the APN settings on my iPhone 3G or iPhone 1st generation with firmware 2.0 loaded? For some reason, the "Cellular Data Network" option can sometimes be invisible, So you can not get into the Advanced screen to change the APN setting.[see pic] Instead you will get a 3G On/Off switch. A: I think this situation is relevant for the upgraded iPhone 1G to FW 2.0 (and unlocked and jailbreaked it today) and for the iPhone 3G pre-paid phones (and jailbreaked today) without SIM lock. For those situations, you may try the following website to generate a custom APN settings file. The url is http://www.unlockit.co.nz. Have a look at that site, and follow the instructions which suits you most. Please checkout worldwide APN settings in THIS older post. I haven't test this and I am curious if it automatically import the settings from the website into the APN profile. That's why I will really appreciate those readers are willing to share their experiences here with other readers

I tried the Disable Data (Fake APN) today on my new 3g iphone and it worked just as described by going thru safari on my iphone. I was able to remove it easily and set my phone back to normal. Great site!
