[UPDATE] iPhone-Dev Team just posted a hint: "We love sundays. We think you will too". For IT&T this is a clear sign: the PwnageTool version 2.0 will be released tomorrow (or next sunday). I will give you a status update concerning the unlocking and jail breaking progress of the iPhone (3G and 1st gen). To start with the iPhone-dev team, they have promised to release a new version of their PwnageTool. The new version number is 2.0 and is scheduled to release in the beginning of next week. This is what it should do for you: The tool will do all the magic for 1st generation iPhones upgraded to 2.0 firmware. It will jailbreak, activate, enable 3rd party apps with the progress in, enable Apple AppStore and also it will unlock the iPhone. If you are an iPhone 1st gen, then congratulations. That is all what 1st gen iPhone owners could wish for. If you have accidentally upgraded your iPhone 1stgen with firmware 2.0 then you are lucky, just wait a few days. Okay iPhone 3G owner, this is your part: The new tool will do some magic for iPhone 3G as well. It will jailbreak, activate, enable 3rd party apps with Installer and enable Apple AppStore. Thats it. The unlock for iPhone 3G will not arrive next week. For iPhone 3G users with a plan, this is just fine, because they have signed a contract for 18 to 24 months. For Pre-paid iPhone 3G owners, they sadly have to use the prepaid card of "Apple's choice". The wonderful result after 1 week of the iPhone 3G release, is that the jail break will be available to all iPhone owner enabling them to install more free applications.
Just some moments ago, GeoHot claimed he "decrypted the 2.0 ramdisk with the key 50AFC271132D15AE6989565567E65BF ", in fact claiming he could perform the jailbreak too. The Dev-Team and GeoHot are using provocations to tease each other. We will wait and see next week and keep you up-to date.
