iPhone App Store: Review Free XBMC Remote Control

This is fun! XBMControl [App Store link] is a simple application which serves as a remote control for the free download-able award-winning Xbox Media Center. I am running XBMC on my MacBook and I tried this free remote software on my iPhone. After you installed the app, you must make the app can talk with XBMC. Start XBMC. On my Mac I navigate with my arrow keys to Settings. Write down the IP Adress of my Mac: 192.168.2.103. Then navigate through Settings / Network / Eventserver. change the following settings:

• Enable Event Server - Checked
• Event Server port 9777
• Allow other computers to connect - Checked [see pic]
  

Now, on my iPhone, I goto Settings / XBMControl and enter the information needed:

• IP Address 192.168.2.103
• Port 9777

Now I start the XBMControl application and boom! All functions are available.

- Navigation through menu
- Arrow keys
- Select Start Pause Stop media
- Fast Forward and Backward
- Skip media
- Volume control
- Volume mute
- Shutdown XBMC
Conclusion: It works perfectly. All functions I have on XBMC is controleable from XBMControl. Don't confuse with the other app named 'XBMC Remote' which is a paid app and I haven't reviewed it. But hey, XBMControl is FREE and that is another plus!
