Sure you should know that you can share your voice memos as attachments in email (or MMS messages iPhone 3G or later). There are situations you do not want your personal voice messages travels through unknown networks like Internet or a mobile datanetwork of a big provider. But did you know that you can Sync Voice Memos via iTunes? iTunes automatically syncs voice memos to your iTunes library when you connect iPhone to your computer. This lets you listen to voice memos on your computer and provides a backup if you delete them from iPhone. Voice memos are synced to the Voice Memos playlist. iTunes creates the playlist if it doesn’t exist. When you sync voice memos to iTunes, they remain in the Voice Memos application until you delete them. If you delete a voice memo on iPhone, it isn’t deleted from the Voice Memos playlist in iTunes. However, if you delete a voice memo from iTunes, it is deleted from iPhone the next time you sync with iTunes. You can sync the iTunes Voice Memos playlist to the iPod application on iPhone using the Music pane in iTunes. Sync the Voice Memos playlist to iPhone:
1 Connect iPhone to your computer. 2 In iTunes, select iPhone in the sidebar. 3 Select the Music tab. 4 Select the “Include voice memos” checkbox and click Apply
Wow, I reported in my last post that my YouTube App was not working after the upgrade of my iPhone 2G to OS3 plus jailbreaking an Unlocking it with Redsn0w. Good news, I have a fix that worked for me and it simple like 1,2,3. The main problem was that my system time was wrong. It is obviously necessary to have a correct system time on your iPhone 2G before the YouTube servers are willing to accept your connections. Here is what helped me fixing the "Cannot Connect to YouTube" issue. I said it was simple because you need to set the iPhone clock to the correct current time ,date and year.
1. Tap settings
2. Tap General
3. In General scroll down to the bottom
4. Tap Date & Time
5. In Date & Time, tap Set Date & Time
6. Tap the , , button
7. Set the correct month day year via the big dial below
8. Tap the button
9. Set the correct current time
10. done.
In my situation the YouTube app started to work straight away. I also retested it by setting the iPhone clock back to a wrong date in 2001, and I can confirm that YouTube doesn't work anymore by complaining with the "Cannot Connect to YouTube"
I hope this fix will fix your YouTube app as well. Leave a message here or twitter me or both.
Good luck!
I like to share my experiences of doing a jailbreak and unlock of a first generation (1st gen) locked iPhone 2G. You know, the one with that metal finish you probably bought in the US and without a AT$T contract. The reason is today's release of the RedSn0w software, which enables us to do both a jailbreak and unlock of our iPhone 2G after we upgrade it to the brand new OS 3.0 with iTunes 8.2. In fact, the Redsn0w software can do the same thing as the Quickpwn tool for OS 2.x and runs on both Windows and Mac OS platforms. NOTE: The instructions below were based on the iPhone 2G in conjunction of a Intel McBook. A PC will do too:) NOTE: While writing, no YouTube fix was available. Please read on about this issue. Okay, let start, what were the steps? 1. Read today's release post of iPhone Dev Team carefully, the owners creators of the free available RedSn0w software. Just read the whole thing once or twice. 2. Download and install RedSn0w for your platform: Mac OS X torrent Windows torrent No torrent client on your Mac?, I have used this uTorrent client. 3. Download the 3.9 and 4.6 baseband bootloader files HERE (or google around). Unzip them on your desktop. 4. Backup the iPhone 2G Sync in Progress..takes ages grrr. 5. Upgrade the iPhone 2G to OS 3.0 via iTunes 8.2 6. Start RedSn0w 7. It will ask for the current .ipsw file. For the iPhone 2G this should be this file iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw and is located at ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/ Click browse and select the above file 8. The file will be processed and followed with a "IPSW succesfully identified" status. 9. Click Next 10. Check checkboxes of both the Jailbreak and Unlock options 11. Next 12. Point the 3.9 and 4.6 bootloader files 13. Next 14. Power OFF your iPhone 2G while CONNECTED via USB. Strictly follow the instructions of RedSn0w. 15. Still Power OFF and CONNECTED right? click Next 16. Follow the instructions as told to bring your iPhone 2G in DFU mode 17. If you were quick enough in step 16, do nothing. The Jailbreak process will start automatically followed by bootneuter who takes care of the Unlock. ( If you were too slow, like me, repeat step 14,15,16 again befor you continue to step 18.) 18. If everything went well, your iPhone 2G with OS 3.0 should both jailbroken and unlocked. Cydia is installed and works (must be updated). Now what are my 1st impressions? In general it looks like all is working, however YouTube is not working. Reports that Push Notifications also don't work are found on forums. I haven't test it yet, because I don't feel the need for this new 3.0 feature yet but I hope for a YouTube fix soon. When you try to do something Cannot connect to YouTube. [YouTube Fix that might solve your problem is found HERE] The Cut Copy Past works fantastic. Also the Spotlight works excellent (click Home once) to find everything on your phone. Internet browsing feels faster. The caledar functions work. Stocks is working, now with the 3.0 landscape Charts. YouTube as said before, is not working (yet). Camera is working with mini-preview of the last picture. Clock is working. Calculator and Notes are working. Voice Memos is a new built-in app and is working. iTunes and App Store are all working no problems. Weather app is working. Conclusions: My conclusion is that if you don't mind missing youtube for some time, the OS 3.0 is worth to load on your locked iPhone 2G. If youtube is your life, you should stick on our current 2.x firmware version and wait till the youtube fix come out. The Cut Copy and Paste is just awesome, soo easy to use.

Traditionally like the iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G, the new iPhone 3GS (S for SPEED) is physically take-apart in pieces. This premier goes to RapidRepair Just in 5 "easy" steps they guide you to a total disassembly of the 3GS into several hundreds of small hardware components. On interesting component which is new in the iPhone 3GS is the videocamera chip. This chip is capable for 720p video, excellent for video conferencing and shooting high quality streams. However the resolution of the iPhone 3GS is still [UPDATED]320x480, so it can't display HD quality. However, RapidRepair states that this may be a gateway HD media product in the near future. Apple fans in the world, you are pre-warned now. The current quality is good have a look at this example video shoot by the iPhone 3GS camera.
Nope, this is not a GEEK-UNBOXING-VIDEO, just a camera quality test video. Enable tethering is not always that "easy" with the method provided by http://help.benm.at. Like many of us, tried this method the last 24 hours. I have a factory sim unlocked iPhone 3G, bought in Italy last summer. After the update to iPhone OS 3.0 I followed the detailed instructions I found at many blogs to enable tethering on my vodafone sim card. basically: 1. Open Safari on iPhone 2. Go to http://help.benm.at. 3. Tap mobileconfigs link 4. Tap my country 5. Tap my provider vodafone 6. Tap Install 7. Confirm to start install 8. Reboot iPhone [this should enable MMS] 9. Go to Settings => General => Network In Network I suddenly see Setup Tethering ! So I Tap for Setup. But... a popup message states: "To enable tehering on this account, contact carrier" It is not the expected message according to the screenshots I saw on the blogs. It is not working. I checked the APN settings. Go to Settings => General => Network=> Cellular Data Network: Well my "working" APN Settings were replaced by other APN. My live.vodafone.com was en now I see an other URL, also from vodafone though. However I fixed the problem by going to another little lower section of http://help.benm.at. and tapped on "Mobileconfig > create" which brings me to the THE GENERATOR (see photo left). That brings me to a custom page where I punched in my original "working" APN settings. APN: live.vodafone.com Username: vodafone Password: vodafone Tethering : Enabled Hit the GENERATE button. Then I Installed these settings as I did the first time. Result after reboot: Tethering works and MMS works. Please follow the followup instructions elsewhere for "how to use tethering":) Good luck. NOTE: I don't have "Visual Voicemail" with vodafone, as fa as i know, so this doesn't work anyways.
Protection shields are invented to protect your iPhone from scratches. But does they work well? Currently I am using / testing theInvisible Shields by Zagg. After 4 months of extensive use, I would like to share my experiences...Please followTHISlink to read the complete review.
I had a PDP Authentication error today while trying to browse the internet. I updated my iPhone 3G to OS 3.0 yesterday night and could browse the internet without any problems. Now I figured out why. After the upgrade, my APN settings were wiped. Because yesterday night I was at home updating my iPhone, I had a proper wireless connection. And the wireless access point information was correctly restored via iTunes. So I had no problem to go online via Wifi. And today I was in my car and driving, I had no Wifi, so it tried to use my 3G HSPDA UMTS or GPRS network. So my iPhone tried to authenticate with the empty APN setting. And that caused the PDP Authentication error. So after I discovered what was missing I entered the APN information again via Settings => General => Networks => Cellular Data Network . Then I entered for my provider, vodafone, the following APN Settings: APN: live .vodafone.com Username: vodafone Password: vodafone TIP: Forgot your APN Settings please find them in THIS post
After that, it was solved immediately. I had internet and no PDP popups anymore!
I just have hit the update button in iTunes 8.2 on my Mac Book with my Phone 3G connected. The update to iPhone 3.0 starts. Wow, that's funny, I see a cartoon picture showing a character (sorry no screenshots) who must represent Steve Jobs? Where did that come from? Oh I think it is from Quickpwn's jailbreak! Quickpwn is a jailbreak program for Mac or PC which is able to replace the start screen of the iPhone. Normally it is an "Apple" logo. Quickpwn 2.2 had replaced this after the jailbreak proces into a Pineapple. The "Pineapple" logo is now probably replaced by this Steve Jobs character after detecting an "update" is queued which will "vanish" the iPhone storage including the jailbreak stuff. Anyway, the update continues with discription of the 100+ reasons to upgrade and shows a license agreement with a bunch of legal stuff. After hitting the "agree" button, the download of the OS 3.0 starts... And about 10 minutes later the update is done. ...Well yet! It states that the iPhone is not activated. I can only get an emergency call dialpad, after slide to unlock. iTunes shows a dialogue box stating the Activation Server is busy. Lucky me, I own an Italian SIM Factory Unlocked iPhone 3G bought last year in Perugia in bella bella Umbria. So I always can call Apple Support to get help. However after unplugging and then re-plugging my iPhone's USB Data cable, iTunes states that my iPhone is succesfully Activated. Now checking the firmware OS version in Settings/General/ About/Version and..Yes! "3.0 (7A341)" The Gold Master" build version of iPhone Three Point O. Oke, my 1st impressions as promissed on the new features: Select Copy Cut and Past. This new feature is missing a long time. Tap and hold your finger near some text on a webpage in mobile Safari and wait until the magnifier shows up. lift your finger and there it is: Select and Select All buttons in a form of a sort of "tooltip" balloon. I tap select and a "selection slider" appears along with a balloon with Cut Copy Paste buttons, Cool! I slide the area I want to select and tap copy. You have to practice a bit but it is very intuitive like always with Apple. Then I went to my mail app, Tap and hold, wait for magnifier, lift finger and tab Paste. Done and it work terrific! Apple promised this feature will work with any app. Spotlight -True Time Saver- For PC people, Spotlight is the search "anything" engine on Mac's and now also available in iPhone 3.o. To activate Spotlight, just hit the Home button. A Search iPhone textbox appears. Now I tried to find an email message from Amazon.com regarding Gift Cards for fathersday, so I entered "gift" and woooow! he finds it. I tap on the result and the iPhone opens the mail app right away. This is a True Time Saver. Voice Memo App This app is new. Just open the app, and Tap on the red dot to record your voice message. Tap stop and the voice message is commited to the storage and catalogued in a simple list. From that list you can select and play your voice memo again or you can mail it as a attachement .m4a file to contacts. Very easy to use. Camera App Fast! The camera app starts faster. Yes it is! and most important, when take the photo, it takes the photo nearly without delay. Well done Apple to make this good old 2 megapixel camera useful again. For the rest, I can't see any changes except the preview thumbnail of you last shooted picture. Fore now I go to bed. I will come back with my 2th impressions ;-) blogpost later, because I am sure I will discover new exciting features later on. **Looking for an scratch proof iPhone 3G case? The TomTom navigation solution, first announced at WWDC 2009, is more than just integrating turn-by-turn car navigation on your iPhone. According to TomTom's iPhone webpage it also provides: 1. "The TomTom app including the latest maps" This is good because the app is not dependent to have an internet connection to download the maps just in tim, like in Google earth or Google Maps. The off-line maps must be pre-loaded prior navigating. 2. "the TomTom car kit that offers secure docking, enhanced GPS performance, clear voice instructions and hands-free calling, while charging your iPhone at the same time." This is again great because you can finally put your iPhone safely on your dash while it is charging. The enhanced GPS could mean that there is a better GPS receiver / antenna built-in the dock. Like using running or cycling apps on the iPhone 3G, it is somethimes hard to get the most accurate GPS position from the satelites. When using GPS inside a car, it can be even worster to get an accurate signal neccesary to do "safe" tunr-by-turn navigation. We hope there is hightech in the TomTom dock to help get a accurate GPS signal inside any common car. However, the app is not released yet.(I just checked in the app store) To visualize the TomTom app and dock features, check out the video below or visit TomTom: Product Page **Looking for an scratch proof iPhone 3G case? There is a good chance you can buy the sim-lock free iPhone 3GS, when you visit Italy this summer season. Italy is among the countries who is shipping the new iPhone 3GS without a subscription contract at June 19th. Very interesting is also the price for the sim-lock free version of the good old iPhone 3G. Last year when the iPhone 3G was available in Italy, I paid 499 euro. Now there is the new iPhone 3GS will be released th 19th June, you might get the good-old 3G for a lower price than 499 euro. Strong rumors are captured here at IT&T HQ that the 16 GB iPhone 3GS sim-lock free will cost 599 euro and the 32 GB iPhone 3GS will go for 699 euro and available in the TIM and Vodafone stores. [UPDATE: Other sources are talking about 619 euro (3GS 16 Gb) and 719 euro (3GS 32 Gb) with Vodafone] When checking the Italian Vodafone shop or the TIM shop, there is a big chance (my Italian reading skill is so-so:) you can have an Italian Ice scream in one hand and a brand new sim-lock free iPhone 3GS in your other. By the way, in the US, the prices are much lower because of the lower exchange rate of US$ compared with the euro. The prices in the VS is confirmed at $499 (3G 8Gb) $599(3GS 16Gb) and $699(3GS 32 Gb). The question is: can someone from outside the US buy the iPhone 3GS in an US Apple Store or are there again limitations? **Looking for an scratch proof iPhone 3G case? by iPhone-Tips-Tricks.com - Today wired.com has reported about the "S of Secrecy" of the iPhone 3GS hardware specifications that T-mobile has accidentally published on their Netherlands Website. Well I just have visited the T-Mobiles website and you guess what? The hardware specifications are removed! Look at the pictures. Before and after it is removed. Did someone from California called the Netherlands to take it off?
The new iPhone 3GS specification of 256 MB ram and a CPU with a 600 MHz clock is removed. Note that the iPhone 2G and 3G had only 128 MB ram with a snail speed 412 Mhz CPU clock. By the way, the Palm Pre has also 600 MHz CPU clock, coincidence?

How will you decide on which smartphone you will spend your hard earned money? Tough question since Apple lowered the prices of the iPhone 3G and will ship the iPhone 3GS the June 19th. Also the Palm Pre will be released soon and 'the Google phone G1 which has already the Digital Compass. Bad time to buy a smartphone now because there are choices to choose from, which make it hard for many of us to choose. The iPhone-Dev team just posted an article regarding the new iTunes 8.2. This version which is recently download able for all of us and is capable to pull the iPhone 3.0 firmware to our iPhone. See quoted description below:
“iTunes 8.2 now supports iPhone or iPod touch with the iPhone 3.0 Software Update. iTunes 8.2 also includes many accessibility improvements and bug fixes.”
It is expected that the official iPhone 3.0 firmware software will come available on, or shortly after the WWDC 2009 event. This event will start within 24 hours from now. The warning: If you want to keep the possibility open to unlock your factory locked iPhone, then don't hit the upgrade firmware 3.0 button yet, but wait for instructions provided by the iPhone Dev Team Blog. The source URL of these, for us most trusted unlock and jailbreak source is http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ We at IT&T have been following this blog for a ages and we must say, they do what they promise.
About the unlock (the real yellowsn0w): you all paid lots of money for your iPhones, and so we know that if you are depending on a software unlock, this is a sensitive issue. It’s a very sensitive issue to us too, which is why we can’t say or release anything prematurely that could potentially compromise any 3.0 software unlock. The commenters on this blog that have high ratings (20 or above) understand this intimately so please listen to them when they try to assist those waiting for any unlock :)
The iPhone Dev Team also warns iPhone owners with the need to unlock or jailbreak, not to visit and not to download software from several sites:
We’re used to (though still aren’t happy about) less predatory websites, like quickpwn.com. That site (1) is not us. We don’t consult with them in any way (2) makes money from their Google hits (they’re usually near the top) (3) sometimes gives very very bad advice (like tweeting yellowsn0w users to use QuickPwn on 3.0 betas. Bad suggestion). (4) also owns yellowsn0w.net, another money making website.
For people who don't care about unlock and jailbreak possibilities in the near future, just follow the iPhone 3.0 firmware upgrade instructions when starting iTunes version 8.2 (or higher) and all will be good as usual. Within 72 hours Phil Schiller will perform the keynote at WWDC 2009. We like to summarize the iPhone rumors to spice it up a bit more between now and then! The name: iPhone Video ? A picture was found at several fellow blogs which shows the AT$T Support webpage. The picture uncovered a dropdown device list of THREE iphone device models named: "Original iPhone" "iPhone 3G" and.... "iPhone Video" ! If this picture is genuine, then it may be part of warming-up for what we can expect at WWDC. As long we write about this... The screen: 16 x 9 Wide Screen ? Fellow blogger The iPhone Blog just posted some "leaked pictures" of the new iPhone Video Touchscreen. If this picture is genuine, we can expect an exact Wide Screen (16 x 9) screen ratio. Speaker new iPhone intro : Steve Jobs ? If the new iPhone Video, or whatever name it will get for the 3rd generation iPhone, will be introduced the coming WWDC 2009 at Moscone, will Steve jump on stage to convince the world with the new iPhone. When reading Steve Wozniacs quotes in the Wall Street Journal, The Woz Says Jobs Sounds ‘Healthy, Energetic’ This could be a possibility and wouldn't it be fantastic to have a great product introduction of the new "iPhone Video" by Mr. Jobs himself ? We wait and see...within 72 hours we know more...
