iPhone TIPS: Grip of Dead Fixed in iOS 4.0.1 ? [UPDATED]

"I love everything about the phone except my signal issues", he wrote. Steve Jobs reportedly replied immediately with:
"There are no reception issues. Stay Tuned."


May I be free to say that "Stay Tuned" is a hint to watch iTunes, especially for am iOS version 4.0.1 to popup in iTunes? And let me guess, after the software fix in iOS 4.0.1, everybody in the world was wrong by pointing at the iPhone 4 antenna. Time will tell. I am exited what is happening the coming days [END UPDATE]


Yesterdays there were many tweets regarding the so called "Dead Grip" issue or "Grip of Dead". One popular one was the following:  

"Blocking iPhone 4 antenna kills reception. Blocking mic kills audio, and covering the screen makes it impossible to see Retina Display" tweeted by Daniel Eran Dilger

If you have followed the blogposts and youtube the last 48 hours, you might get the impression the whole world is kind of pointing the finger to the antenna construction of the new iPhone 4. But is it really an issue? and if the answer is yes, is it a hardware issue?


There are reports of the same Dead Grip symptoms on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS after updating to iOS4 and the reporters are saying it did not had these problems in previous iPhone OS 3. Why is this so interesting? Well, iOS is software and if this is true that it is caused by iOS 4.0, then this issue can be fixed in iOS 4.0.1 just because it is software! The ware is soft so it is fixable you understand?


Appleinsider reports that there were forum discussions pointing the problem caused by the iOS 4.0 software. It might switching frequencies differently than before iOS 4.0. Please check that excellent post for the technical nitty gritty stuff.
  
"Readers report that Apple's tech support forums originally confirmed that a iOS 4.0.1 software fix addressing the issue would ship early next week (as early as Monday), before the comments were subsequently taken down along with all the other related discussion about the matter."




So if that is all true, the Dead Grip is gone by the next iOS 4.0.1 update and all the buzz and worries are gone too. And, if it is not true, there are still work arounds. Just wrap a iBumper around your iPhone 4 or "Just NOT holding your iPhone that way". And if you want to avoid scratches in the front or back of your new iPhone 4 then why not also stick some iPhone 4 Screen Protector  like invisible shields to protect it. Mean while, let's wait for iOS 4.0.1 the coming days before making the issues bigger in our head. I trust everything will come OK soon.

iPhone TIPS: How to Transfer Apps from iPhone to iTunes?

Q: I just bought a new Mac. Now I like to transfer the apps on my iPhone to my new Mac. How can I do that? A: If you want to transfer all iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone (or iPad, or iPod) to a computer, be sure to authorize the computer before connecting the device. To authorize, follow these steps:

• Open iTunes.
• From the Store menu, choose Authorize Computer.
• In the dialog that appears, the Apple ID button is selected by default. If you have an AOL account, select AOL.
• Enter your Apple ID or AOL screen name and password, then click the Authorize button.

After connecting your device to the computer and its icon appears in iTunes, you can choose Transfer Purchases from "Your device name" from the File menu. All your purchased stuff will be transferred to the new Mac. via

  

iPhone TIPS: Invisible Pixels on iPhone 4 Retina Display is Amazing

Can you imagine a digital display where you can't see the pixels? That is what you get with the new iPhone 4 Retina display as introduced by Steve Jobs WWDC 2010 keynote. Steve Jobs summarized it as "..it will be hard to go back once you start using the 326 dpi display..." And I think he is right! On the left you see the iPhone 4 Retina display, sharp as a real glossy magazine. To the right you see the good old iPhone 3GS display, and you see the pixels one by one. yuk! ;)

We placed an iPhone 3GS and an iPhone 4 side by side. The results were readily apparent. Text on the iPhone 3GS, while quite readable, showed noticeable pixelation. We couldn’t pick out any pixels on the iPhone 4’s text; as Apple claims, this screen really makes text look like something you’d find in a book or a magazine, with none of the artifacts that we’ve come to expect from a LCD display.

iPhone TIPS: FaceTime over 3G Reason To Jailbreak iPhone 4

(and the 3G telco's did that too) So the new iOS 4 will have Skype over 3G, Multitasking and so on. There are lesser reasons nowadays for the need of a good-old jailbreak. However during Steve Jobs WWDC keynote iPhoneDev Team’s Musclenerd identified a whole new reason for a jailbreak. This tweet say it all:

iPhone TIPS: Watch Realtime App Store Activity [video]

Q: What is it? A: It is called the hyperwall and showed at the WWDC2010.  
  Fellow blogger Mashable has shot this video.  The wall shows the top 50,000 apps in the App Store across a bank of 30 (thirty)  large LED Cinema Displays. Anytime an app is downloaded it falls into a color-coordinated stack across the displays. Once the display hits 10,800 apps, it resets and starts over with app downloads.
